The IDEA Travel Clinic is designed to provide individualized preventative services for persons visiting other countries with an increased risk of infection. We review each traveler’s itinerary and discuss risks of illness and preventative strategies.  We offer a full array of vaccinations, including yellow fever, polio, typhoid and meningococcal vaccines.

We also prescribe medications for traveler’s diarrhea, altitude sickness and malaria prevention when necessary.

We remind travelers of these tips:

  • All travelers should make sure they have insurance which will cover them for treatment in the country where they are traveling
  • Travelers should make sure they are in good health for travel and have adequate supplies of their usual prescription medication
  • Traveler’s diarrhea is common in most foreign countries.  Travelers* should generally drink canned or bottled beverages, use boiled or purified water, and avoid adding ice to beverages
  • Travelers* should avoid swimming in freshwater rivers, lakes and streams
  • Spending time at altitudes above 8,000 feet could create a risk for altitude sickness. Medications are available to prevent this complication
  • Insect bites carry numerous disease risks, and use CDC-recommended insect repellants is highly suggested.
